Virginia Therapeutic Network (VATN) maintains a strong foundation of accreditations, affiliations, and regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality, trusted services for individuals and families in our community. VATN is BBB accredited and recognized as an Authorized Continuing Education Provider by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), reflecting our longstanding commitment to excellence in service and professional development.

Our affiliations include active partnerships with the Autism Society of Central Virginia, Mobility Works, Virginia Telehealth Network, and Friendship Circle—organizations that extend VATN’s impact across clinical, accessibility, and community engagement initiatives. VATN operates in full accordance with licensing and regulatory requirements set by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), the Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP), and the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS).

VATN’s multidisciplinary clinical team holds specialized credentials through national certifying bodies: BACB (for behavior analysts), NCTRC (therapeutic recreation), AOTA and NBCOT (occupational therapy), APTA (physical therapy), and ASHA (speech-language pathology). This diverse expertise ensures effective, ethical, and inclusive care for those we serve, guided by the highest clinical standards and regulatory oversight.

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) licenses service providers and ensures they meet regulatory requirements, quality standards, and oversight for clinicians delivering behavioral health and developmental services.

The Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) regulates professional licensure, renewals, and disciplinary actions for healthcare providers, including those working with individuals with ID/DD, across multiple health boards.

The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) monitors compliance with Medicaid participation agreements, policies, and standards, and can retract payment or terminate provider agreements for noncompliance, directly impacting clinicians’ ability to practice.

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) provides national certification required for Virginia licensure as a behavior analyst or assistant, and sets standards for training, ethics, and continuing education in ABA practice.

The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) sets the credentialing standards for recreation therapists; certification is required for state facility practice and demonstrates competence in serving individuals with disabilities.

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) establishes professional guidelines and ethical standards nationally, influencing state licensure requirements for occupational therapists in Virginia.

The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) administers certification exams for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, and all practitioners must pass NBCOT exams for Virginia state licensure.

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) sets best practice guidelines and educational standards, which Virginia physical therapists must meet for licensure, including graduate of accredited programs and passing licensure exams.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certifies speech-language pathologists and audiologists, and state licensure requires ASHA certification in addition to compliance with Virginia regulations.
