Assessments at VATN

“Our assessment work at VATN is about more than scores and checkboxes—it’s about listening closely to each person’s story and turning complex information into something useful and hopeful. We look at strengths, challenges, environments, and values together so families and teams walk away not just with a report, but with a clearer path forward. A good assessment should leave people feeling seen, understood, and better equipped to make decisions that fit their real lives.”

Our Assessment Services

1

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2)

Our ADOS-2 assessments use a standardized, play- and conversation-based protocol to observe social communication and restricted/repetitive behaviors, providing structured information that can support diagnostic decision-making by qualified medical or psychological providers.

2

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)

VATN’s FBAs combine interviews, direct observation, and data analysis to understand why challenging behavior happens and to develop clear, function-based recommendations that improve safety, independence, and quality of life across settings.

3

Assistive Technology (AT)

AT assessments identify specialized devices, equipment, and technology that can increase independence with daily living, communication, and participation in other services, aligning recommendations with Virginia’s waiver criteria and cost-effectiveness requirements.

4

Environmental Modification (EM)

Our EM assessments focus on home and vehicle accessibility, recommending medically necessary modifications—such as ramps, bathroom changes, or vehicle adaptations—that enhance safety and autonomy while respecting waiver limits and building codes.
