Private Pay FBA

VATN’s private pay Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) services are designed for individuals, families, schools, and agencies who need a thorough, behavior-focused evaluation outside of waiver or insurance funding. An FBA helps identify why behavior is happening and what environmental, skill, or support changes can reduce challenges and increase success across settings.

FBA's at VATN

At VATN, FBAs are conducted by behavior analysts who specialize in working with neurodivergent and disabled individuals across the lifespan. Your assessor uses interviews, direct observation, and data review to understand the context of behaviors, then develops clear, actionable recommendations that fit real-life routines at home, at school, and in the community. Every FBA emphasizes dignity, safety, autonomy, and values-driven goals—not just compliance.

FBA INTAKE PROCESS

Referral

You start by submitting a referral through our online form or contacting our intake team. We gather brief background information and clarify your goals for the FBA (e.g., school, home, or multi-setting concerns).

Intake Meeting

An assessor meets with caregivers (and, when appropriate, the individual and/or school staff) to review history, current concerns, previous evaluations, and priorities. Together, you identify target behaviors and the questions you want the FBA to answer.

FBA

The clinician conducts the assessment, which may include structured and unstructured observations, interviews, record reviews, and data collection across relevant environments (such as home and school). Findings are synthesized into functional hypotheses about what is driving the behavior.

Plan Development

You receive a written report summarizing the assessment, functional hypotheses, and individualized recommendations. Depending on your package, this may also include a detailed behavior support plan and scheduled training sessions to help your team implement the recommendations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How are private pay FBA's funded?

FBAs on this page are funded through private pay or through an ongoing service contract (for example, with a school division or agency). We can provide invoices and documentation if your organization needs them for internal reimbursement or records.

Where can FBA's be completed?

FBAs can be completed in homes, schools, and other community settings that are important to understanding the behavior (such as day programs or work sites), as agreed upon during the intake process and within the limits of the selected package.

What is included in the FBA?

All FBA packages include an intake meeting, functional assessment procedures (observations, interviews, and data review), and a written summary with recommendations. Additional elements—such as a detailed behavior support plan, team training, and ongoing consultation—are included or added depending on the package you select.

Who completes the FBA?

FBAs are completed by qualified behavior professionals (such as behavior analysts or similarly trained clinicians) with experience in functional assessment and behavior support planning for neurodivergent and disabled individuals.

Can the FBA be shared with schools or other providers?

Yes. Reports are written to be understandable and usable by school teams, medical providers, and other professionals. With your permission, we can collaborate or attend meetings to help explain findings and recommendations (often through the training/support packages or contracts).

Does an FBA include direct behavior therapy?

An FBA itself is an assessment and planning service, not ongoing therapy. Some packages include follow-up training and coaching so caregivers and staff can implement the behavior plan. If you are interested in ongoing behavior therapy, we can discuss additional services.

How long does the FBA process take?

Timelines vary by package and setting, but most private pay FBAs—from intake meeting through final report—are completed over several weeks to allow for meaningful observation, analysis, and collaborative review.
