Crisis Resources

Virginians have access to several statewide crisis supports designed to offer fast, compassionate help when things feel overwhelming.

​

Through the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), individuals can call or text 988 to reach the Virginia 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, where trained crisis workers are available 24/7 to listen, de-escalate, and connect callers with local services. DBHDS also oversees REACH (Regional Education Assessment Crisis Services Habilitation), a statewide crisis program for children and adults with developmental disabilities that offers 24/7 mobile crisis response, crisis therapeutic homes, and short‑term stabilization in every region of the Commonwealth. These services provide an additional layer of support alongside local Community Services Boards and emergency services, helping individuals and families navigate behavioral health and developmental disability crises with coordinated, community-based care.
